William Rosen '27 is more than a sports broadcaster. He鈥檚 a storyteller, mentor, adventurous home cook, and lifelong learner whose creativity is sparked by curiosity and connection.

A Communication major with a concentration in Sports Communication and a Digital Video Production minor, William has built a reputation for being everywhere: on the sidelines, in the studio, behind the mic, and in the editing room.

鈥淚 do everything I do because I genuinely love it,鈥� William said. 鈥淚鈥檝e been lucky to find opportunities at Marist that let me keep growing.鈥�
 

Early Inspiration

Growing up in Manhattan, William鈥檚 love of sports began with trips to Madison Square Garden with his grandfather to watch the Knicks. His eyes followed the players, but his ears tuned into the announcers who helped shape the experience. 

鈥淚 used to mimic them as a kid,鈥� he recalled. 鈥淭hat鈥檚 how I developed the rhythm and style I bring to the mic today.鈥�

By high school, he was running his school鈥檚 livestream coverage, calling games, editing clips, and discovering a lifelong passion for sports media.
 

Real-World Experience at Marist

At 糖心Vlog, William has transformed that spark into professional-level experience through student-led sports programs and mentorship from professors and industry professionals.

William is an on-air host for the Red Fox Report, a student-led, live-to-tape sports broadcast filmed in Marist鈥檚 Studio A and featured in many Marist game broadcasts on ESPN+. The program gives students national exposure as on-air talent and opportunities to lead behind-the-scenes production under the mentorship of experienced professionals.

He is also the co-creator of , which spotlights Marist athletes and their stories beyond the scoreboard, and the sports director for WMAR radio, where he oversees scheduling for student-run game-day broadcasts, mentors younger announcers, and works to expand programming with new sports talk segments.

On game days, he鈥檚 behind the mic, sideline reporting for football, basketball, soccer, and lacrosse, energizing fans and sharpening his craft. 

His favorite moments so far include calling a no-hitter at the MAAC Softball Championships, calling radio play-by-play at the MAAC Basketball Championships, and traveling to Florida to cover Marist football's first win of the 2024 season against Stetson.

He also contributes to , Marist鈥檚 student-run sports outlet, producing multimedia features, pregame shows, and weekly recaps that combine his journalistic and broadcast skills with guidance from industry mentors.
 

Mentorship and Community

William credits his professors and the athletics production team for elevating his professionalism. Known for showing up in a blazer or suit, he brings that same polish to his on-air work.

鈥淲orking alongside experienced editors, hosts, and a dedicated production crew has shown me the standard and helped me reach it,鈥� he said.

He鈥檚 also built strong relationships across campus. 

鈥淭alking with coaches after games and getting to know the athletes is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do.鈥�

Creative Life Beyond Booth

Off-air, William finds inspiration in food and travel. A trip to Japan with his grandparents deepened his appreciation for culinary art, and he鈥檚 known among friends for his dinner nights, sushi hand-rolls, and Hudson Valley restaurant discoveries. Whether exploring new cafes or experimenting in his residence hall kitchen, he approaches each experience with curiosity, the same quality that drives his broadcasting.

Film is another outlet that fuels his creativity and eye for production. He often visits local theaters to recharge and appreciate strong direction, writing, and cinematography.
 

Looking Ahead

鈥淚 always want to do more,鈥� he said. 鈥淭he mix of on-air, production, and mentorship keeps opening doors.鈥�

After graduation, William hopes to pursue sports media with ESPN, SNY, or MSG, blending production, on-air work, and mentorship.
